HOW TO MANAGE & TREAT
DRY EYE

How can you manage and treat dry eye while maintaining good eye health? And why is this so important? After a diagnosis of dry eye, an eye care professional will be able to create a treatment plan based on the symptoms you’re experiencing, from methods of prevention to the preservative-free products you can use to alleviate symptoms. But for extra support to help you manage your dry eye and any supporting information you might need, we’ve got you covered.

How to manage dry eye: Some lifestyle changes

Since lifestyle habits and environmental factors like diet, screen usage and exposure to pollutants can contribute to dry eye, there are some changes you can make to your daily routine that may help minimise the symptoms. But it’s also worth remembering that some factors like ageing and essential medications are unavoidable and it can be more difficult to prevent symptoms of dry eye. In these cases, management and treatment are a bigger focus.

  • Eat well:
Include plenty of foods containing high levels of vitamins such as fish, eggs and leafy greens in your diet since these can improve general eye health and help avoid dry eye. Keeping your levels of Omega-3 higher by eating plenty of fish, nuts and seeds can also help reduce dry eye symptoms.
  • Stay hydrated:
Make sure to drink lots of water throughout the day to help keep your eyes moist and hydrated.
  • Limit time in AC/heating:
Air conditioners and heaters can drastically reduce the moisture levels in the surrounding air. To reduce your dry eye symptoms, try to spend less time in air conditioning or heated environments so that your eyes stay properly hydrated and comfortable.
  • Limit screen use:
If possible, keep screen usage to a minimum and take regular breaks from staring at computers, phones, TVs and any other screens used in your daily life. This will help your eyes retain proper moisture levels. If you need to look at a screen for prolonged durations for work or personal reasons, try to blink as much as you can.
  • Avoid eye drops containing preservatives where possible:
These can contribute to irritation and soreness, worsening the symptoms rather than alleviating them. If you have been prescribed or recommended eye drops for an eye condition, be sure to talk to your eye care professional about preservative-free alternatives.

HOW TO MANAGE DRY EYE

Making sure the eyelids are healthy, eating a balanced diet that includes Omega-3 fatty acids, staying hydrated all day every day and using the correct lubricant eye drops (also called artificial tears) are just a few of the ways you can manage this eye condition.

Your eye care professional can recommend a routine for you to follow that will reduce symptoms and make your eyes feel comfortable again. This routine will include using products designed to alleviate the symptoms of your dry eyes, such as the preservative-free dry eye drops Hyabak® and Thealoz® Duo.

THEALOZ® DUO

For long-lasting relief and improved protection for dry eye sufferers, Thealoz® Duo is the perfect solution. Not only does it increase the thickness of the tear film1, but the added hyaluronic acid acts as a tear lubricant to soothe annoying symptoms such as irritation and soreness.

THEALOZ® DUO GEL

Thealoz® Duo Gel is ideal for moderate to severe signs and symptoms of dry eye such as discomfort, stinging or irritation of the eye. The lanolin-free and preservative-free gel contains the same ingredients as Thealoz® Duo but in a gel formulation, for extra staying power making it perfect for overnight use.

HYABAK®

For contact lens wearers and screen users, we recommend reaching for Hyabak® because it offers excellent hydration and comfort. The drops are in an easy-to-use bottle offering quick and easy relief of symptoms alongside containing hyaluronic acid to hydrate and lubricate the eyes.

For everyday management of dry eye symptoms, Hyabak® or Thealoz® Duo are ideal. These preservative-free dry eye drops can be used as often as required and are suitable for use with contact lenses. Please always remember to read the label and check with a healthcare professional if you are taking any other medications unless stated.
